Комментарии чиновника связаны с активизацией разработки CBDC рядом крупных центробанков, считает издание.
Чиновник отметил, что цифровой юань способствует реализации ранее объявленной новой экономической стратегии Китая с опорой на рост внутреннего спроса в стране. Новая политика призвана изолировать экономику от растущей геополитической напряженности с США и другими странами.
«Мы должны создать независимую и качественную финансовую инфраструктуру […] ускорить темпы исследований и разработки CBDC и обеспечить, чтобы пилотные испытания показали, что она контролируема и обеспечивает безопасность платежей», — подчеркнул представитель центробанка.
Китай начал исследования цифровой валюты в 2014 году. Регулятор ускорил работы после объявления в прошлом году гигантом соцсетей Facebook о планах запуска Libra.
Народный банк Китая уже тестирует систему электронных платежей в цифровой валюте (DCEP) в четырех городах — Сучжоу, Сюнгане, Шэньчжэне и Чэнду.
На днях власти Шэньчжэня провели первое распределение цифрового юаня среди населения. В лотерее приняли участие более 1,9 млн жителей мегаполиса — примерно 15% населения.
