Предполагаемые преступники продвигали так называемую KBC Coin, криптовалюту, якобы обеспеченную золотом. Один из причастных к схеме, Бальджитсингх Лашкария (Baljeetsingh Lashkariya), который находится в бегах, начал осуществление плана два года назад с помощью рекламы KBC.
KBC Coin была запущена шесть месяцев назад после того, как «тысячи» инвесторов поверили обещаниям о токене, обеспеченном золотом. KBC продавалась по 10 пайсов ($0,01) за монету, при этом преступники утверждали, что за короткое время цена валюты вырастет в сто раз.

Генеральный директор полиции (DGP) Ашиш Бхатия (Ashish Bhatia) заявил, что обвиняемый обещал инвесторам сказочную прибыль, которую жертвы так и не получили: «Цена монет KBC так и не увеличилась, и через шесть месяцев мошенники ушли в подполье».
