В ответ на это, пользователь под псевдонимом skyquake-1 написал, что согласно заявлению биткоин-траста для SEC от января 2017 года, кастодиан «не может раскрывать такие [публичные] ключи спонсору, трасту или любому другому физическому или юридическому лицу».

Ergo опирался на факт переориентации Grayscale с Xapo на Coinbase Custody в качестве кастодиана. Это позволило ему отнести принадлежащие GBTC 317 705 BTC к 432 адресам.
Для поиска оставшихся биткоинов компании, Ergo «просканировал блокчейн» и выявил дополнительные адреса, которые соответствуют профилю ранее обнаруженных.
Он признал, что его анализ «безусловно, включает ложноположительные и отрицательные результаты», однако обнаруженные адреса содержат почти то же оставшееся число монет, которое должны принадлежать GBTC.
Напомним, 18 ноября Grayscale Investments отказалась предоставить отчет о прозрачности своих резервов из «соображений безопасности».
