Выступая на местном телевидении, глава государства объявил о принятии Petro в международной торговле с 1-го октября 2018 года, сообщает CoinDesk.
Невзирая на сомнения экономистов и аналитиков в том, что международные рынки примут национальную криптовалюту Венесуэлы, Мадуро заявил:
«Petro становится валютой обмена, торговли и конвертации для валют со всего мира».
В настоящее время не ясно, в каких именно сферах внешней торговли будет задействована официально запущенная в феврале венесуэльская цифровая валюта. В выступлении Мадуро подчеркнул, что использование Petro в международной торговле происходит после разработки и внедрения токена в рамках программы экономического восстановления страны.
Ранее президент объявил, что новая валюта страны — Суверенный Боливар — будет даже привязана к Petro, который, в свою очередь, обеспечивается нефтяными запасами Венесуэлы.
Однако криптовалюта сталкивается с противодействием на международной арене. Индия отказалась использовать Petro при оплате нефти даже при 30% скидке на сырье. Дональд Трамп в марте запретил гражданам США приобретать венесуэльский Petro.
