Разработчики Bitcoin Core представили обновление стандартного программного клиента биткоин-сети версии 0.16.1.
Новые криптокошельки, созданные в версии 0.16 или позже, теперь несовместимы с версиями до 0.16 и не будут работать в старых версиях. В тоже время уже созданные в старых версиях ПО криптокошельки продолжат работать без изменений.
Кроме того, в данной версии удалена опция ограничения размера блока для майнеров “-blockmaxsize”. Вместо нее появилась опция ограничения веса блока “-blockmaxweight”.
Разработчики протестировали Bitcoin Core на ядре Linux, macOS 10.8+ и Windows Vista. Обновление не поддерживает Windows XP. Ожидается, что ПО будет функционировать в системах Unix, но не проходило соответствующего тестирования.

Предыдущий полноценный клиент Bitcoin Core был выпущен в конце февраля. В нем была представлена «полная поддержка» технологии масштабирования Segregated Witness (SegWit). Она предназначена для снижения времени обработки транзакций и комиссий.
Разработчик Bitcoin Core Джимми Сонг так прокомментировал предыдущий релиз: «Нативная поддержка SegWit (bech32) окажет серьёзную поддержку в распространении биткоина. Она снизит раздувание блоков и подтолкнёт другие кошельки к принятию bech32».
