Граждане Таиланда будут вынуждены подождать замены наличных денег на цифровую валюту центрального банка (CBDC) от 3 до 5 лет, сообщает CCN. С таким заявлением выступил глава Банка Таиланда (BoT) Виратай Шантипрабхоб (Veerathai Santiprabhob). Банкир разъяснил, что это связано со сложностями процесса выпуска CBDC, который потребует коренного изменения в денежной системе страны.
Шантипрабхоб отметил, что некоторые развитые страны уже смогли достичь значительного успеха в развитии CBDC. Однако для развивающихся стран будет сложно повторить путь стран со сформированной финансовой структурой.
Центральный банк Таиланда пока не планирует выпускать так называемую розничную CBDC, предназначенную для использования гражданами в повседневных транзакциях. Однако три месяца назад было объявлено о начале работ над возможностью эмиссии оптовой CBDC, предназначенной для использования финансовыми учреждения по проведению межбанковских платежей и трансграничных переводов.
Для осуществления программы выпуска собственной CBDC в августе BoT подписал контракт с консорциумом R3, как с технологическим партнером, и восемью другими участниками проекта, включая Bangkok Bank Public, Krung Thai, Siam Commercial Bank, Standard Chartered Bank (Thailand) и HSBC.
