В американском городе Массен в штате Нью-Йорк ввели 90-дневный мораторий на создание новых майнинг-центров с целью привлечения туристов. Об этом мэр Стив О’Шонесси сообщил в комментарии WWNYTV.
«Мы не хотим, чтобы наш город был захламлен трейлерами [с оборудованием], которые добывают биткоин. Мы лишь хотим убедиться, что если они [майнеры] собираются прийти сюда, то создадут презентабельное строение», — пояснил глава города.
До этого Массена привлекала майнеров дешевым электричеством от местной гидроэлектростанции Massena Electric. Но после того, как власти заметили прицепы с оборудованием на главной дороге города — приняли решение о запрете.
«Ключевые критерии для майнеров — дешевое электричество и надежность. И этими качествами мы всегда обладали», — заявил один из руководителей Massena Electric Эндрю Макмэн.
До этого жители штата Нью-Йорк обвинили майнинговую компанию Greenidge Generation в негативном воздействии на экологию. А в Огайо провайдер инфраструктуры для майнинга биткоина Standard Power заключил пятилетнее партнерство с компанией Energy Harbour для обеспечения дата-центра безуглеродной электроэнергией от ее атомной станции.
