Технические особенности обновления. Хардфорк Thanos ECIP-1099 удвоит продолжительность эпохи Ethash (Etchash) с 30 000 до 60 000 блоков, эффективно уменьшив размер направленного ациклического графа [DAG]. Это позволит майнерам с GPU в 3 Гб и 4 Гб возобновить майнинг Ethereum Classic.
«Thanos призван уменьшить размер DAG для более распределенной и «здоровой» экосистемы майнинга. Увеличится и скорость хеширования. Это даст возможность нынешним майнерам продолжить добычу и привлечет новых», — сообщил основатель и CEO Ethereum Classic Labs Джеймс Во.
Только в августе 2020 года сеть Ethereum Classic трижды подвергалась атаке 51%. В последний раз глубина реорганизации составила 7000 блоков, что эквивалентно примерно двум дням майнинга.
Разработчики также отметили, что хардфорк не повлечет негативного влияния на совместимость с Ethereum (ETH).
