В ходе дела по незаконному распространению наркотиков правоохранители конфисковали биткоины, установив, что монеты являются доходом от преступной деятельности.
«Прокуратура округа идет во главе новаторских стратегий и практик правоохранительных органов, необходимых в формирующемся новом криптомире», — сообщил прокурор Кристофер Грамиччони.
В 2019 году, после признания подозреваемым вины и вынесения приговора, был поданиск в суд о конфискации биткоинов.
«Эта ситуация — эффективный шаблон для государственных правоохранительных органов на рынке криптовалют — месте, где можно ожидать продолжения сокрытия доходов от преступлений», — считает Грамиччони.
Напомним, что первая изъятая властями округа еще в 2017 году партия биткоинов ими пока не реализована. Арестованные у подозреваемых в ограблениях более десятка финансовых учреждений криптоактивы на тот момент составляли сумму свыше $200 000. На данный момент они оцениваются в более чем $1,25 млн, отметил телеканал.
