Разработчик Джим Робинсон пояснил, во время проведения обычной транзакции детали публикуются в открытом режиме. Кроме этого, уплачивается небольшая комиссия. Для достижения консенсуса и подтверждения платежа приходится ждать.
Во время создания платёжного канала часть средств для пользователей замораживается. Платёж фактически проходит вне сети. Поэтому не нужно платить комиссию. К тому же транзакция занимает меньше времени, да и отследить её сложнее.
Детали публикуются в блокчейне после закрытия канала
При этом становится доступным только окончательный расчёт. Данные о текущей активности в канале доступны только двум контрагентам.
Разработчики планируют сделать Stellar совместимым с такими офчейн-решениями, как Lightning Network и Interledger.
Офчейн-решения обеспечивают прохождение транзакций в обход блокчейна.
Расчёты проходят по правилам того или иного офчейна. Каждый из них управляется централизованно, при этом имеет собственные подходы к анонимности и открытости транзакций.
Офчейны представляют собой вынужденный компромисс. Так, Lightning Network появился в результате того, что транзакции в основной сети Bitcoin стали слишком медленными и дорогими.
