«За последние пять лет махинации rug pull из небольшой проблемы превратились в крупную эпидемию, в которой разработчики мошеннических токенов украли миллиарды долларов у миллионов розничных инвесторов», — пишут эксперты.
Мошенники чаще всего используют для махинаций BNB Chain: примерно 12% от общей эмиссии токенов BEP-20 приходится на скам-проекты. У Ethereum показатель составляет 8%.
Благодаря этой схеме мошенникам удалось обмануть более 2 млн инвесторов. Это сравнимо с общим количеством пострадавших от четырех крупных банкротств в индустрии — FTX, BlockFi, Celsius и Voyager (~2,3 млн человек).
Лидер мошеннических токенов — honeypot. В смарт-контракте такой монеты закрыта возможность ее перепродажи покупателем. Наиболее известным примером стал Squid Game, в котором инвесторы потеряли $3,3 млн.
Вдобавок скамеры прибегают к скрытому выпуску дополнительного объема токенов или мошенничествам с передачей прав собственности.
Специалисты Solidus Labs пишут, что разработчики скам-токенов использовали 153 разные централизованные криптоплатформы для финансирования проектов и вывода денег. Совокупный объем их операций на этих биржах с сентября 2020 года составил $11 млрд в Ethereum. Почти $4 млрд из этой суммы пришлось на площадки, зарегистрированные в США.
