По мнению главы аналитического отдела ФРС Кристин Смит (Christine Smith), биткоин уже выполняет две основные функции денег – средства сбережения и средства платежа. Именно принятие криптовалюты в качестве средства для оплаты товаров и услуг и предоставляет три основных аргумента в пользу трактовки биткоина как обычных фиатных денег:
- У BTC и обычных наличных денег отсутствует внутренняя ценность. Уже длительное время ни доллар, ни другие валюты не подкрепляются золотом – золотой стандарт отменен в 70-е годы XX столетия.
- Конечная эмиссия. Выпуск биткоина строго ограничен, как и эмиссия денег, определяемая законодательным путем. Дефицит лежит в основе стратегии ФРС по стабильности в денежной системе, поскольку «для поддержания ценности деньги должны быть ограничены».
- Децентрализация и анонимность. Это свойство биткоина полностью сходно со свойством наличных денег, при обороте которых нам не нужны посредники.
